It helps maintain the correct gearbox oil level, protecting internal transmission components against lubrication loss and premature wear.
Not suitable for manual transmissions.
What Does It Do?
The driveshaft oil seal creates an oil-tight barrier between the rotating gearbox output flange and transmission housing.
It prevents gearbox oil escaping while allowing the driveshaft flange to rotate freely, helping maintain the lubrication required for reliable PDK operation.
Why Is It Important?
The Porsche PDK gearbox relies on correct lubrication for smooth operation and long-term reliability.
A damaged or worn driveshaft seal can cause:
- Transmission oil leaks
- Reduced gearbox oil level
- Oil contamination around the driveshaft flange
- Increased internal component wear
- Potential gearbox damage if fluid loss continues
Why Does It Fail?
Common causes of seal deterioration include:
- Ageing and hardening of the sealing material
- Repeated temperature changes
- Wear from the rotating output flange
- Contaminated gearbox oil Incorrect installation
- Damage to the flange sealing surface
These conditions can reduce sealing effectiveness and allow transmission oil to escape.
When Should It Be Replaced?
Replace the oil seal if:
- Oil is leaking around the gearbox driveshaft flange
- The seal is cracked, hardened or damaged
- Oil residue is visible around the transmission output
- The seal is disturbed during gearbox repairs
- The driveshaft flange is removed for transmission servicing
Always confirm the source of the leak before replacing the seal.
Checks & Installation
Inspect the driveshaft flange sealing surface and gearbox housing for wear or damage.
Remove the old seal carefully and install the replacement squarely using suitable installation tools.
Follow Porsche workshop procedures and check the correct transmission oil level after repairs.
Porsche 718 Boxster & Cayman PDK Driveshaft Oil Seals
