Corrosion of the original rear crossmember brackets is a known problem on ageing Porsche 964s. As the brackets are not normally available separately through the Porsche parts programme, repairing this area has traditionally meant replacing the complete rear crossmember, Porsche reference 96450502000.
This replacement bracket set provides a considerably more practical solution by allowing the original crossmember to be professionally repaired and retained.
What Does the Bracket Set Do?
The brackets form part of the mounting arrangement of the rear reinforcement bar. When the original brackets become corroded or structurally damaged, they can be removed and replaced without having to discard an otherwise serviceable complete crossmember.
The replacement brackets have been manufactured to closely replicate the geometry, construction and appearance of the original components, including the original-style dimensions, edges and radii.
Importantly, they are manufactured as pressed components rather than simple fabricated substitutes, helping reproduce the construction of the factory brackets.
Why Do the Original Brackets Fail?
The rear crossmember brackets are exposed to moisture, road dirt and salt beneath the vehicle. Over many years, corrosion can develop around the brackets and their mounting points.
Typical reasons for
replacement include:
- Corrosion of the original aluminium brackets
- Deterioration around mounting points
- Damage discovered during restoration
- Previous poor-quality repairs
- Damaged or missing retaining hardware
If the main rear crossmember remains serviceable, replacing only the affected brackets can avoid unnecessary replacement of the complete assembly.
High-Quality Construction
The replacement brackets are manufactured from EN AW-6060 T66 aluminium alloy with a mill-finish surface.
The set also includes stainless-steel retaining springs and zinc-plated steel square nuts, providing the necessary bracket hardware for a professional repair.
Only four suitable aluminium rivets are required for installation.
When Should the Brackets Be Replaced?
Replacement should be considered when corrosion or damage is discovered during inspection of the rear crossmember.
The complete crossmember should first be carefully inspected to confirm that it remains structurally suitable for repair. If corrosion extends significantly into the main crossmember itself, further repair or replacement may be required.

crossmember replacement bracket set, including:

Porsche 964 Rear Crossmember, Reinforcement Bar & Repair Brackets
The rear reinforcement bar or crossmember is an important part of the Porsche 964 rear body structure. With age, corrosion can develop around its mounting brackets even when the main crossmember remains suitable for continued use.
Previously, damaged brackets could make replacement of the complete 96450502000 crossmember necessary because Porsche did not supply these brackets separately. This OE Match repair set provides a more economical and sympathetic restoration solution by allowing the affected brackets to be replaced while retaining the original crossmember.
Manufactured as pressed components from EN AW-6060 T66 aluminium, the brackets closely reproduce the geometry and appearance of the originals. This makes the kit particularly suitable for Porsche 964 restoration projects where maintaining an original-style construction is preferable to using improvised fabricated brackets.
Design911 supplies Porsche 964 rear body panels, reinforcement components, brackets and restoration parts for Carrera 2, Carrera 4 and Turbo m
