Diagram ref no 30
This precision-sized sealing ring fits between the oil cooler pipe and its connection point, creating an oil-tight joint that prevents fluid escaping under normal operating conditions.
An essential replacement when servicing gearbox cooling pipes, particularly where original seals have become flattened, hardened or damaged.
What Does It Do?
The O-ring forms a pressure-resistant seal between the gearbox oil cooler pipe and its mating connection.
As transmission oil circulates through the PDK cooling system, the O-ring prevents oil escaping around the pipe fitting.
When installed correctly, the seal compresses between the mating surfaces to maintain a secure, leak-free connection.
Why Is It Important?
The PDK transmission depends on maintaining the correct oil level for lubrication, hydraulic operation and temperature management.
A worn or damaged O-ring may cause:
- Transmission oil seepage around cooler pipe connections
- Oil stains on the gearbox casing
- Gradual loss of gearbox oil
- Reduced sealing effectiveness at the pipe joint
- Potential transmission damage if oil loss is ignored
Replacing deteriorated seals helps maintain the integrity of the gearbox cooling circuit.
Why Do PDK Oil Cooler O-Rings Fail?
Continuous exposure to transmission oil, operating temperatures and pressure changes can gradually affect the condition of the sealing material.
Common causes include:
- Hardening or flattening with age
- Compression set from prolonged installation
- Damage during oil pipe removal
- Incorrect fitting or pinched seals
- Deterioration caused by repeated temperature changes
When Should It Be Replaced?
Replacement is recommended whenever the O-ring shows cracking, distortion, flattening or evidence of oil leakage.
New seals should also be fitted when disconnecting the relevant gearbox oil cooler pipes, as previously compressed O-rings may no longer provide a reliable seal.
Installation Notes
Remove the old O-ring and carefully clean the sealing groove and mating surfaces.
Lightly lubricate the replacement seal with the appropriate transmission oil before installation, ensuring it sits correctly without twisting or stretching.
Reconnect the oil pipe securely and inspect for leaks after completing the repair. Follow Porsche's specified procedure if the transmission oil level requires checking or adjustment.
