Diagram Ref No 25
It transfers excess heat from the gearbox oil to the vehicle's cooling system, helping maintain consistent transmission performance and protect internal components against overheating.
What Does It Do?
The gearbox oil cooler helps remove heat generated during PDK operation.
By transferring heat from the transmission oil to the engine cooling circuit, it helps maintain the correct operating temperature for reliable gearbox lubrication and performance.
Why Is It Important?
The Porsche PDK gearbox relies on controlled oil temperatures for efficient operation.
Excessive transmission heat can contribute to:
- Reduced gearbox performance
- Deterioration of transmission oil
- Increased internal component wear
- Gearbox overheating warnings
- Premature transmission damage
A correctly functioning oil cooler helps maintain stable operating temperatures.
Why Does It Fail?
Common causes of gearbox oil cooler failure
include:
- Internal corrosion or deterioration
- Blocked coolant or oil passages
- Age-related damage
- Leaking seals or connections
- Internal heat exchanger failure
These problems can reduce cooling efficiency or allow fluid leakage.
When Should It Be Replaced?
Replace the gearbox oil cooler if:
- The heat exchanger is leaking
- Transmission temperatures are consistently excessive
- Cooling performance has deteriorated
- Internal oil and coolant contamination is confirmed
- The cooler is damaged during gearbox repairs
Always diagnose the cooling system and transmission before replacing the cooler.
Checks & Installation
Inspect the connecting oil pipes, coolant hoses and sealing rings before installation.
Replace damaged seals and follow Porsche workshop procedures when refilling and bleeding the cooling system.
Check the correct PDK oil level and inspect for leaks after installation.
