This component replaces the corresponding original equipment air suspension compressor assembly, Porsche reference 971616006H, where the aftermarket unit's specifications and fitment have been confirmed.
The Porsche Panamera (971) uses an electronically controlled air suspension system on suitably equipped vehicles to provide a combination of ride comfort, vehicle stability and adjustable ride height.
The system incorporates air springs, air lines, a compressor, control valves, ride-height sensors and electronic control components.
The air suspension compressor is responsible for generating the compressed air required by the system.
When the suspension control system requests additional air pressure, the compressor operates to replenish the air supply and support the required suspension height.
This enables the vehicle to raise or lower itself according to the selected driving mode and operating conditions.
A correctly functioning compressor is essential for maintaining the pressure needed for reliable air suspension operation.
The compressor works together with the air suspension valve block and air springs, which control the delivery of compressed air to the relevant suspension components.
Over time, an original air suspension compressor may deteriorate because of extended operating cycles, mechanical wear, electrical faults or moisture contamination.
Air leaks elsewhere in the suspension system can also cause the compressor to operate more frequently than intended.
This excessive demand may lead to overheating, increased noise, reduced air delivery or complete compressor failure.
A defective compressor can prevent the air suspension from adjusting correctly, potentially leaving the vehicle at an incorrect ride height or triggering a suspension warning.
Replacing a failed compressor with a correctly specified OE MATCH unit helps restore compressed-air generation and supports the normal operation of the air suspension system.
Designed as an alternative to a Genuine Porsche replacement, the OE MATCH Air Suspension Compressor provides a replacement option for compatible Porsche Panamera vehicles.
What This Product Does:
The air suspension compressor generates and supplies compressed air for the vehicle's electronically controlled air suspension system.
Unlike a conventional suspension system that relies solely on steel coil springs, an air suspension system uses pressurised air within flexible air springs to support the vehicle.
The compressor is responsible for providing the compressed air required to maintain and adjust this system.
When the vehicle's suspension control unit determines that additional air pressure is required, it can command the compressor to operate.
The air supply is then managed through the system's valves and connected air lines.
The compressor's main functions include:
- Generating compressed air: Supplies the pressure required by the air suspension system.
- Supporting adjustable ride height: Helps the vehicle raise or maintain its height when commanded.
- Maintaining the available air supply: Replenishes pressure when required by the suspension system.
- Supporting self-levelling operation: Helps the system compensate for changes in vehicle loading.
- Maintaining suspension functionality: Provides the compressed-air source needed by the air springs.
- Supporting driving-mode adjustments: Enables pressure changes associated with the vehicle's suspension settings.
- Working with the valve block: Supplies air that is distributed through the suspension control valves.
- Supporting consistent vehicle stance: Helps maintain the ride height requested by the control system.
- Supporting ride comfort: Enables the air suspension to maintain the pressure necessary for its intended operation.
- Supporting suspension system recovery: Replenishes the air supply following authorised ride-height adjustments.
The compressor does not independently select the vehicle's ride height.
The suspension control unit, height sensors and valve block determine when and where compressed air is required.
Symptoms Of Wear Or Failure:
An air suspension compressor can deteriorate through normal mechanical wear, moisture contamination, electrical problems or excessive operation caused by other suspension faults.
Common symptoms of compressor failure include:
- Air suspension warning message: The vehicle may display a suspension system malfunction.
- Vehicle unable to raise: The suspension may fail to reach a requested higher ride-height setting.
- Slow ride-height adjustment: The vehicle may take longer than normal to raise.
- Compressor running excessively: The unit may operate unusually frequently or for extended periods.
- Loud compressor noise: Increased buzzing, grinding or rattling may indicate mechanical deterioration.
- Compressor not operating: The unit may fail to start when additional air pressure is requested.
- Vehicle sitting too low: Insufficient system pressure may prevent the suspension from maintaining the correct height.
- Uneven vehicle stance: One corner or axle may sit lower than intended, although this often indicates an air spring or valve fault.
- Intermittent suspension operation: Ride-height adjustment may work inconsistently.
- Overheating: Excessive compressor operation may trigger protective shutdown.
- Electrical fault codes: Diagnostic equipment may identify compressor circuit or operating faults.
- Slow pressure build-up: A worn compressor may no longer generate the required air supply efficiently.
- Frequent suspension correction: The system may repeatedly attempt to restore the commanded ride height.
- Suspension adjustment unavailable: Certain ride-height functions may be disabled when a fault is detected.
- Compressor operating with unusual vibration: Internal wear or damaged mounting hardware may produce abnormal noise.
Why Replacement Matters:
The air suspension compressor is essential for maintaining the compressed-air supply required by the Porsche Panamera's air suspension system.
As the compressor wears, it may become less efficient and take longer to generate the required pressure.
Continued operation of a failing compressor can lead to overheating, excessive electrical demand and eventual loss of compressed-air generation.
If the system cannot maintain sufficient air pressure, the suspension may be unable to achieve its requested ride height.
This may affect the vehicle's normal suspension operation and result in warning messages or restricted ride-height adjustment.
Replacing a confirmed defective compressor with a compatible OE MATCH unit helps to:
- Restore compressed-air generation: Replace a compressor that can no longer provide sufficient pressure.
- Restore ride-height adjustment: Allow the system to raise the vehicle when commanded.
- Support self-levelling operation: Maintain the air supply needed to compensate for vehicle loading.
- Reduce abnormal compressor noise: Replace a mechanically worn or noisy unit.
- Address compressor-related faults: Repair confirmed failures within the air supply assembly.
- Reduce excessive compressor operation: Restore efficient pressure generation where the compressor itself is defective.
- Support suspension system reliability: Reinstate the compressed-air source.
- Maintain intended suspension performance: Enable normal operation of the air springs and control valves.
- Support ride comfort: Restore the system's ability to maintain its programmed suspension settings.
- Prevent further compressor deterioration: Replace a worn unit before complete failure.
- Support comprehensive suspension repairs: Install a new compressor after associated leaks or faults are corrected.
- Provide an aftermarket replacement option: Offer an alternative to the corresponding Genuine Porsche assembly.
