Front Suspension Wear and Replacement
On the Porsche 993, common failure points in the front suspension include the
control arms, ball joints, tie rods and bellows. As these components wear, you may notice clunking over bumps, loose or vague steering, uneven tire wear, or steering wheel vibration. Because the front suspension system is highly interconnected, wear in one part often accelerates the deterioration of other components.
To address this, we’ve developed a complete wishbone arms, ball joints & tie rods designed to restore handling, performance, and safety. This kit includes new front control arms, ball joints, tie rods and bellows ensuring a comprehensive solution rather than piecemeal repairs.

Fits:
- Porsche 993 (911) C2 1994-97

Why Control Arms Matter
Control arms serve as a critical link between the suspension and the subframe. Their hinged design allows the suspension to articulate as the vehicle absorbs bumps or navigates turns. On vehicles with independent suspension, like the 993, multiple arms and connection points contribute to better ride comfort and stability.
As bushings and joints within a control arm wear out, the suspension can begin to feel loose or unstable. While some designs allow individual components to be serviced, many control arms require complete replacement to restore proper function.
Symptoms of Control Arm Failure
Signs that your control arms may need replacement include:
- Excessive play where the arms connect to the subframe or knuckle
- Clunking or knocking noises from the suspension
- Uneven tire wear
- Difficulty achieving proper wheel alignment
- Steering wheel vibration at highway speeds
- Wandering or pulling sensation through the steering wheel

The control arm bushing is comprised of two halves for each arm. Kit includes two halves for one complete bushing.
High Density front control arm bushings can eliminate vibration often caused by ageing OEM units, and better maintain steering feel under heavy acceleration and braking. These bushings replace the rear bushing in the front control arm of 993s and 964s and will reduce suspension deflection more precisely maintaining suspension geometry and alignment. Featuring a 25% increase in durometer, our units reduce suspension deflection under load resulting in a crisper and more direct steering feel. Street and track cars owners alike will enjoy a more planted and precise front end.

Rear V-shape wishbone (rear lower control arm) is the replacement for the Porsche 911 (993) rear axle. It locates the rear hub, controls toe/camber under load and carries the ball-joint and bushing interfaces that keep rear suspension geometry precise. Replace worn or damaged arms to eliminate play, restore crisp handling and correct abnormal tyre wear.
Why replace the wishbone?
- Worn bushings or a failing ball joint introduce free play — the car feels vague under braking/cornering and can develop a shimmy.
- Corrosion, impact damage or bending (kerb or track incidents) will change suspension geometry and lead to rapid/uneven tyre wear.
- Old arms allow unwanted deflection; replacing them restores factory kinematics and improves driver feedback, especially important on lowered or high-mile 993s.

Common issues / failure modes
- Ball-joint wear — ball joints loosen or develop play; when they go the arm must be replaced or re-balled.
- Bushings deteriorate — rubber bushings crack, get soft or collapse, allowing alignment drift and tyre cupping.
- Corrosion / fatigue — especially on UK/EU cars exposed to salt; can lead to seam rust or metal fatigue on older arms.
- Bent arm from impacts — an arm that’s been hit will change toe/camber and should be replaced, not straightened.

OEMatch Wishbones & Bushes — Control, Stability, Comfort
Wishbones and bushes are core suspension items that control wheel location, movement and alignment on Porsche models. OEMatch supplies direct-fit wishbones and alternative bushes selected for servicing, restoration and setup work, helping maintain intended steering behaviour, tyre contact and ride comfort across model generations.
- Standard replacement wishbones and control arms
- Rubber and polyurethane bush options
- Corrosion-resistant and strengthened control arm variants
Understanding OEMatch Wishbones & Bushes
OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) parts are made by the same company that produced your Porsche’s original wishbones & bushes.
OE (Original Equipment) refers to parts matching original specifications for the wishbones & bushes and may be supplied by alternative manufacturers. Aftermarket parts offer alternative options, sometimes with enhanced features or better value. OEMatch supplies non-OEM wishbones & bushes engineered as direct-fit alternatives to OEM parts, made to original-spec dimensions and tolerances for Porsche models.
Wishbones (control arms) locate the wheel hub and transmit suspension loads while bushes isolate vibration and allow controlled articulation. Correctly functioning bushes control camber, caster and toe under load and preserve intended steering response. OEMatch maintains a wide catalogue of Porsche items, documenting over 4,000 part numbers and more than 8,700 OE cross-references, and continues to develop new parts to support servicing and restoration.
Benefits Include
- Restores correct suspension geometry and wheel alignment
- Reduces vibration and unwanted noise transmitted to the chassis
- Improves steering precision and tyre wear consistency
Why Wishbones & Bushes Wear and Fail
- Bush rubber cracking, splitting or hardening due to age and environmental exposure
- Corrosion, bending or fatigue in wishbone arms and mounting points
- Impact damage from potholes or kerbs causing deformation or misalignment
The Importance of Replacing with OEMatch Wishbones & Bushes
Replacing worn wishbones and bushes restores predictable handling and preserves tyre contact patches on Porsche vehicles. Correct components protect other suspension items from accelerated wear, help maintain alignment settings used for safe steering response and support the intended balance between comfort and control.
Advantages
- Direct-fit alternatives made to original-spec dimensions and tolerances for straightforward replacement
- Choice of standard rubber or polyurethane bush compounds to suit comfort or performance preferences
- Parts manufactured from corrosion-resistant materials to reduce long-term maintenance
