Vehicle Group

- Porsche 944 2.5L 8V 1982-87
Information
Cam belt tensioner.
Manufactured to fit directly - no modification required - this tensioner restores the original belt path and tensioning characteristics that are critical to reliable engine timing and smooth valve operation.
Outer diameter: 59 mm, Width: 31,5 mm
Fits:
Porsche 924S 1986
Porsche 944 2.5L 8V 1982 - 1986
Diagram ref No 6.
This timing belt tensioner is a pulley unit that controls belt tension and alignment along the drive path, keeping the timing belt taut between the crankshaft, camshaft, and auxiliary pulleys. It maintains proper belt tension to prevent slip or mis-timing, keeps the belt tracking correctly to reduce wear and noise, and absorbs vibration while compensating for belt stretch. By replacing a worn or noisy original tensioner, it restores stable, reliable timing-belt operation and helps extend overall belt life.
A timing belt tensioner gradually wears through miles, heat cycles, and bearing fatigue. As the spring weakens or the pulley deteriorates, belt tension becomes inconsistent, which can lead to belt slip, misalignment, or even skipping teeth—conditions that may cause serious engine damage on interference-type Porsche engines. Replacing the tensioner ensures stable, accurate belt control, protects the engine’s timing components, and restores the reliability required for safe, trouble-free operation.
