Diagram Ref No 3
Positioned around the front quarter glass, the seal creates a flexible weather-resistant barrier between the glass and surrounding frame. Its purpose is to help prevent rainwater, wind, dust and road contamination from entering the passenger compartment while also helping the quarter glass sit securely and correctly within the window assembly.
Over many years, the original rubber seal can harden, crack, flatten or shrink as a result of sunlight, temperature changes, moisture and general ageing. Once the seal loses its elasticity, it may no longer conform properly to the glass and frame, resulting in water leaks, wind noise or visible gaps.
Replacing a deteriorated quarter-glass seal helps restore weather protection, reduce cabin noise and preserve the interior and surrounding bodywork.
What This Product Does:
The Front 1/4 Glass Seal forms the weatherproof interface around the quarter glass.
Its primary functions are to:
- Help prevent rainwater entering around the quarter glass.
- Reduce wind noise while driving.
- Prevent dust and dirt entering the cabin.
- Help keep moisture out of the door and window structure.
- Cushion the glass against the surrounding frame.
- Help maintain correct quarter-glass positioning.
- Reduce rattling and vibration.
- Restore the original appearance of the window assembly.
Symptoms Of Wear Or Failure:
Common symptoms include:
- Water entering around the quarter glass.
- Dampness after rain or washing.
- Increased wind noise.
- Whistling at motorway speeds.
- Cracked rubber.
- Hardened or brittle rubber.
- Seal shrinkage.
- Visible gaps around the glass.
- Flattened sealing surfaces.
- Sections pulling away from the frame.
- Quarter glass rattling.
- Moisture inside the door or cabin.
- Staining around interior trim.
- Aged or deteriorated appearance.
Why Replacement Matters:
Replacing a deteriorated Front 1/4 Glass Seal helps restore:
- Weather protection.
- Reduced water ingress.
- Reduced wind noise.
- Correct glass support.
- Reduced rattling.
- Better cabin refinement.
- Protection of interior trim.
- Correct appearance of the window assembly.
It is particularly worthwhile during restoration, where old hardened weather seals can undermine otherwise high-quality body and interior work.
