Porsche Cayenne 955 V8 (AFTER catalyst)
Porsche Cayenne 955 Turbo (AFTER catalyst)
Function:
The Oxygen Sensor (also known as Lambda Sensor) is located in the exhaust manifold and measures the amount of unburned oxygen in your engine's exhaust. Based on the amount of oxygen, it sends a signal to your engine computer which then adjusts the air/fuel mixture for optimum engine performance and emission control.
Failure Symptoms:
Excessive fuel consumption, a faulty oxygen sensor can waste 30% of your fuel.
Driveability problems, such as engine surging or hesitation.
High hydrocarbon emissions, failing an emissions inspection.
The engine warning light may be on or service flag displayed.
The ecu/computer stores a mixture-related fault code.
When the oxygen sensor has stopped functioning completely, the catalytic converter may overheat and fail
Maintenance/Service:
Test and/or replace every 30,000 miles.
Perform periodic emission checks.
Watch for service light.
Vehicle manufacturers recommend periodic inspection and replacement of oxygen sensor.

Diagram Ref No 6
Also known as an upstream, pre-cat or O2 sensor, the lambda sensor provides essential feedback to the engine control unit (ECU). By measuring the amount of oxygen remaining in the exhaust, the sensor enables the ECU to determine whether the engine is operating with a rich or lean air-fuel mixture and make the necessary fuel-delivery corrections.
Because this sensor operates upstream of the catalytic converter, it plays a particularly important role in closed-loop fuel control. Accurate readings contribute to efficient combustion, responsive engine performance, fuel economy and emissions control.
Continuous exposure to high exhaust temperatures, vibration and combustion deposits can cause lambda sensors to deteriorate over time. A worn sensor may become slow to respond, provide inaccurate readings or fail completely.
This OE Match Lambda Oxygen Sensor provides a high-quality replacement for a worn, contaminated or defective pre-catalytic converter sensor.
What This Product Does:
- Measures oxygen content within the exhaust gases.
- Is designed for installation before the catalytic converter.
- Sends exhaust oxygen information to the ECU.
- Helps determine whether the air-fuel mixture is rich or lean.
- Allows the ECU to continuously adjust fuel delivery.
- Supports accurate closed-loop fuel control.
- Helps maintain efficient combustion.
- Contributes to consistent throttle response and engine performance.
- Helps optimise fuel consumption.
- Supports correct exhaust emissions.
- Helps protect the catalytic converter from problems caused by incorrect fuelling.
- Replaces a slow, contaminated, damaged or failed oxygen sensor.
- Provides an OE Match replacement for compatible Porsche applications.
Symptoms Of Wear Or Failure:
- Check engine or engine-management warning light.
- Lambda or oxygen sensor-related diagnostic fault codes.
- Rich or lean mixture fault codes. Increased fuel consumption.
- Rough or unstable idle. Engine hesitation or stumbling.
- Poor throttle response. Reduced engine performance.
- Engine running excessively rich or lean.
- Strong fuel smell from the exhaust.
- Increased exhaust emissions.
- Failed emissions testing where applicable.
- Intermittent engine-management faults.
- Slow sensor response visible through diagnostic equipment.
- Implausible or inconsistent oxygen sensor readings.
- Sensor heater circuit faults where applicable.
- Damaged wiring or electrical connectors.
Why Replacement Matters:
- The pre-catalytic converter lambda sensor is one of the engine-management system's primary tools for controlling the air-fuel mixture.
- When operating correctly, the sensor provides rapid feedback that allows the ECU to continually adjust fuel delivery according to actual combustion conditions. If the sensor becomes slow or inaccurate, these adjustments may no longer be as precise.
- Poor mixture control can result in increased fuel consumption, reduced performance and higher emissions. In some cases, the engine may continue to operate relatively normally while efficiency gradually deteriorates.
- Incorrect fuelling can also place the catalytic converter at risk. An excessively rich mixture may allow unburned fuel to enter the exhaust system, increasing catalyst temperatures and potentially contributing to premature catalytic converter damage.
- A completely failed sensor may cause the ECU to use substitute values or a more conservative operating strategy, potentially illuminating the engine-management warning light and reducing overall efficiency.
- Replacing a defective sensor with this OE Match Lambda Oxygen Sensor helps restore accurate mixture feedback, efficient combustion and dependable engine-management operation.

OEMatch Lambda Sensors / Probes — Fit, Function, Confidence
OEMatch Lambda Sensors / Probes components are compatible replacements engineered to original-spec dimensions and tolerances — a practical option when genuine or OEM parts are unavailable. Lambda sensors measure oxygen in exhaust gases and report to the engine control unit so fuel injection and ignition are adjusted for correct combustion in Porsche models, helping to maintain efficient running and emissions control.
Available Types
- Narrowband heated zirconia sensors for stoichiometric control
- Wideband (UEGO) sensors for precise air-fuel ratio feedback
- Pre-catalyst and post-catalyst probes for exhaust monitoring
Understanding OEMatch Lambda Sensors / Probes
OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) parts are made by the same company that produced your Porsche’s original lambda sensors / probes.
OE (Original Equipment) refers to parts matching original specifications for the lambda sensors / probes and may be supplied by alternative manufacturers. Aftermarket parts offer alternative options, sometimes with enhanced features or better value. OEMatch supplies non-OEM lambda sensors / probes engineered as direct-fit alternatives to OEM parts, made to original-spec dimensions and tolerances for Porsche models.
Lambda sensors detect oxygen content in exhaust gases and provide a feedback signal used by the ECU to regulate fuel delivery and maintain correct combustion. Sensor designs vary by application; heated elements assist rapid warm-up, while wideband units offer greater resolution for tuning and diagnostics. Correct sensor operation supports catalytic converter efficiency and engine management across a range of Porsche engines.
Benefits Include
- Restores accurate air-fuel control for stable idle and part-throttle response
- Helps reduce emissions and supports catalytic converter protection
- Improves fuel economy by enabling correct mixture control
Why Lambda Sensors / Probes Wear and Fail
- Contamination of the sensing element by oil, coolant or deposits
- Thermal cycling and element degradation from repeated extreme temperatures
- Wiring damage, connector corrosion or poor electrical contact
The Importance of Replacing with OEMatch Lambda Sensors / Probes
Replacing a degraded sensor restores reliable feedback to the ECU, reduces the risk of poor combustion or catalytic converter damage and helps keep emissions within expected limits for Porsche models. OEMatch supplies sensors chosen for compatibility with Porsche mounting and electrical interfaces to simplify replacement while supporting accurate air-fuel control.
Advantages
- Direct-fit options that match factory mounting points and electrical connections
- Available with heated elements or wideband sensing for specific applications
- Corrosion-resistant housings and common connector types for straightforward installation
