The CV joint (Constant Velocity Joint) is located at each end of the axle assembly and is most often used on front wheel drive cars. A 2wd vehicle will have 2 axles with 4 CV joints and boots. A 4wd will typically have twice as many as the 2wd. The CV joint allows the wheels of the vehicle to turn while still being able to put power to the wheels.
The most notable indicator of a worn out CV joint is the loud clicking noise you hear when you turn the steering wheel.

This CV Joint Grease is an lubricant compound developed to match the original grease specifications used by Porsche in constant velocity (CV) joints. Supplied in an 80 g tube, this grease is formulated to provide optimal lubrication and protection for CV joints during assembly, service, or rebuild of drive shafts and half-shafts.
Fits:
Porsche 964 1989 - 1994
Porsche 993 1995 - 1998
Porsche 986 Boxster 1997 - 2004
Porsche 996 1998 - 2005
Porsche 997.1 2005 - 2008
The CV joint grease reduces friction and wear within the moving surfaces of the constant velocity joint. It helps ensure smooth articulation of the CV joint under angle changes, load transfer, and rotational motion. By maintaining a protective lubricating film, it minimises metal-to-metal contact, reduces heat buildup, and suppresses noise and vibration during operation.
Applied inside the CV joint housing and over bearings, cages, and races, this grease ensures consistent lubrication where rapid movement and heavy loads occur. Its formulation supports water resistance and high shear stability - critical for joints exposed to torque, temperature changes, and contaminants. Proper grease application helps maintain joint integrity and reduces the risk of premature failure.
CV joint grease deteriorates over time due to heat, shearing forces, and contamination. Old, insufficient, or incorrect grease can lead to accelerated wear, noise (clicking/knocking), and eventual CV joint failure. Using a grease ensures the correct lubrication properties are restored, enhancing noise suppression, longevity, and smooth driveline performance.
When to replace:
• During CV boot replacement or inspection
• When CV joints are removed or serviced
• Upon signs of joint noise or vibration
• At scheduled driveline maintenance
• Anytime boots are torn or lubricant has leaked out

OEMatch CV Joint Kits — Fit, Function, Confidence
OEMatch CV joint kits for Porsche models restore quiet, consistent power transfer by renewing worn joints, seals and lubrication. Each kit supplies the joint, matched boot, grease and the clamps or clips required for a complete repair so the driveshaft can operate without vibration or noise and with reliable articulation through steering and suspension travel.
Available Types
- Outer CV joint kit with boot, grease and clamps
- Inner CV joint kit with boot and fittings
- Complete driveshaft CV kit including inner and outer joints
- CV boot and clamp repair kit
Understanding OEMatch CV Joint Kits
OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) parts are made by the same company that produced your Porsche’s original cv joint kits.
OE (Original Equipment) refers to parts matching original specifications for the cv joint kits and may be supplied by alternative manufacturers. Aftermarket parts offer alternative options, sometimes with enhanced features or better value. OEMatch supplies non-OEM cv joint kits engineered as direct-fit alternatives to OEM parts, made to original-spec dimensions and tolerances for Porsche models.
CV joints transmit torque from the gearbox to the wheels while allowing for steering angles and suspension movement. A complete kit replaces the joint and sealing parts to restore smooth rotation, reduce vibration and protect the joint from contamination.
Benefits Include
- Restores smooth, quiet power delivery and consistent handling
- Replaces sealing and lubrication to prevent contamination-related wear
- Includes all necessary parts for a single, professional repair
Why CV Joints Kits Wear and Fail
- Torn or split boots allowing grease to escape and debris to enter
- Lack of lubrication causing accelerated metal-on-metal wear
- Corrosion, pitting or fatigue from age and high torque loads
The Importance of Replacing with OEMatch CV Joint Kits
Timely replacement of worn CV joints and boots limits further damage to driveshafts and hub assemblies and restores predictable steering and drive behaviour. Using a complete kit renews seals and lubrication in one operation, reducing the chance of early re-failure. For safety-critical driveline and steering work, follow model-specific procedures or seek a qualified technician to ensure secure fastenings and correct alignment.
Advantages
- Direct-fit replacements engineered to match original dimensions and tolerances
- Supplies sealing, grease and fixings for a sealed assembly
- Suitable for restoration, maintenance and high-mileage repairs on Porsche models
