Coolant Pressure Testing / Purge Cap – Essential Tool for Cooling System Diagnostics & Maintenance
This coolant pressure testing and purge cap is purpose-built for the Porsche 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman, allowing technicians to accurately test, diagnose and bleed the cooling system. It replaces the standard coolant reservoir cap during servicing and enables direct connection to pressure testers, vacuum purge systems and coolant refilling equipment.
The 718’s turbocharged flat-four engine operates under high thermal load, and its cooling system relies on precise pressure levels to maintain performance and prevent overheating. This specialised cap ensures that coolant pressure tests are accurate and reliable, helping technicians detect leaks, verify system integrity and properly purge air after coolant replacement.
What This Coolant Pressure / Purge Cap Does
This tool allows you to:
- Connect a pressure testing system to check for leaks
- Verify pressure stability across hoses, radiators, gaskets and coolant tank
- Support vacuum filling and coolant purging after service
- Identify failing components early, such as water pumps or coolant leaks
- Ensure complete air removal, preventing hot spots and overheating
- Aid in diagnosing coolant loss, pressure drop or overheating problems
It is an essential tool for workshop-level cooling system maintenance on the 718 platform.
Why Coolant Systems Fail on the Porsche 718
The 718 Boxster/Cayman cooling system may develop faults
caused by:
- Age-related hose deterioration
- Weak or failing coolant reservoir caps losing pressure
- Small leaks in radiators, water pumps or O-rings
- Air pockets trapped after coolant service
- Thermal expansion stress from spirited driving or track use
- Clogged or restricted coolant passages
- Faulty expansion tank fittings
A pressure test using a proper purge/testing cap is the fastest way to locate these issues before significant engine damage occurs.
Why You Should Use or Replace the Coolant Test/Purge Cap
A high-quality cap ensures:
- Accurate coolant pressure readings
- Fast detection of hidden leaks
- Proper bleeding of the cooling system after service
- Reliable seal under pressure, unlike worn standard caps
- Reduced risk of overheating or coolant boil-over
- Professional-quality servicing for Porsche 718 engines
Replacement is recommended when a cap becomes worn, cracked, or fails to hold pressure during diagnostic procedures.

Diagram ref no 19
The drive belt tensioner lever and pulley assembly keeps the auxiliary belt under the correct operating tension. This allows the belt to reliably drive engine accessories such as the alternator, water pump, air conditioning compressor, and other belt-driven components depending on model specification.
Functions:
• Maintains correct auxiliary drive belt tension
• Guides the drive belt smoothly over the pulley system
• Helps prevent belt slip, squeal, or misalignment
• Supports reliable operation of belt-driven engine accessories
• Reduces vibration and uneven belt movement
• Helps protect the belt from premature wear
• OE Match replacement kit for worn tensioner lever and pulley components
Why Replace This Part?
The tensioner lever and pulley are exposed to constant rotation, heat, vibration, and belt load. Over time, the pulley bearing can wear, the lever mechanism can weaken, and the tensioner may no longer hold the belt correctly. A worn tensioner or pulley can cause belt noise, slipping, charging problems, cooling issues, or accessory drive failure. Replacing the kit helps restore reliable belt tension and protects the auxiliary drive system.
When to replace
• The auxiliary drive belt is slipping, squealing, or jumping
• There is noise from the pulley bearing or tensioner area
• The pulley has play, roughness, wobble, or visible damage
• The tensioner no longer holds correct belt tension
• The belt shows uneven wear, cracking, or glazing
• The alternator, water pump, or air conditioning drive is affected
• The drive belt is being replaced as part of major service
• During engine accessory drive repair or preventative maintenance.
Where it fits on the car
This kit fits on the engine accessory drive system, where it tensions and guides the auxiliary drive belt. It is mounted at the drive belt tensioner position on the front/side of the engine, depending on the model and engine layout.

Fitment, Tolerances & Installation Best Practices for Porsche Engines
Correct fitment and precision tolerances are essential when rebuilding any Porsche engine. Whether you’re completing a full engine rebuild or replacing a single part, following Porsche-correct installation practices is critical for long-term reliability, lubrication flow, and mechanical harmony.
Key Principles for Engine Rebuild Fitment
Exact Surface Preparation
Cylinder heads, crankcases, and mating surfaces must be cleaned, inspected, and prepared before installing new seals or gasket kits. Even minor imperfections can lead to oil leaks or uneven torque distribution.
Correct Torque Values & Fastening Sequence
Components such as connecting rods, camshaft covers, and engine mounts must be torqued using the official sequence and values to prevent distortion or premature wear.
Precision Timing Setup
Accurate timing is crucial when installing timing chains, tensioners, camshafts, and gears. Incorrect timing can cause engine misfires, poor performance, or valve/piston contact.
Lubrication System Integrity
When replacing oil system components,
including pumps, seals, and housings, ensure proper alignment and
sealing to maintain correct oil pressure throughout the engine.
Thermal and Mechanical Clearance Checks
Items such as piston rings, crankshafts, and engine bearings
require precise clearance checks during installation. These tolerances
ensure optimal performance and prevent early component failure.
Correct Fuel Delivery & Airflow Setup
After
installing components such as fuel injectors, carburetors, or air intake
parts, ensure air-fuel ratios, injector spray patterns, and throttle
response align with factory parameters.
Final Verification & Testing
Before an engine rebuild is complete, OE Match recommends:
Every OE Match engine component is designed for direct compatibility, factory-correct tolerances, and long-term mechanical reliability.
