Information
Air Con expansion valve.
The expansion valve for the A/C (air-conditioning) system, designed to regulate refrigerant flow into the evaporator core. Positioned between the condenser and evaporator, it drops refrigerant pressure and allows the refrigerant to expand - thus enabling effective cooling.
Fits:
Porsche 970.1 Panamera 2010 - 2013
Porsche 970.2 Panamera 2014 - 2016
Diagram ref no 3
• Position on Vehicle: Located in the A/C refrigerant line, typically near the evaporator housing inside the HVAC unit or just downstream of the condenser, depending on model variant.
• Cross-Reference / Alternative Numbers: OEM part number: 970 573 621 00 (Sometimes printed as 970-573-621-00)
• Applications: Replacement valve for faulty or failing expansion valves in the A/C system — often necessary when cooling efficiency drops, or when other major A/C components are being replaced, to ensure the whole system operates correctly.
The expansion valve plays a critical role in the A/C system by controlling refrigerant flow and pressure drop into the evaporator. If the valve becomes clogged, sticky, or malfunctions, the result can be reduced cooling performance, erratic temperature control, or even damage to other A/C components. Replacing a worn or failing valve restores correct refrigerant metering, improves cabin comfort, and extends the life of the A/C system.
When and why to replace:
• A/C blowing warm air despite compressor and condenser functioning.
• Symptoms of frost build-up or long cooling times indicating restricted refrigerant flow.
• After replacement of condenser, evaporator or compressor - fitting a new expansion valve ensures the system is fully refreshed.
• Visible leaks or corrosion around the valve body or refrigerant line.
• When the vehicle has high mileage or original A/C components that may be nearing end-of-life.
