Steering Column Bushing. Porsche 356 A › 64434771100
- Porsche 356A 1955-59
Restore precise steering feel and proper steering column support with this OE Match Steering Column Bushing, manufactured as a direct replacement. Produced to OE-style specifications, this steering column bushing supports and centres the steering shaft within the steering column housing, helping to eliminate unwanted movement while ensuring smooth, accurate steering operation.
Fits:
- Porsche 356A 1955-59
Diagram Ref No 10
Over time, the steering column bushing is exposed to continual steering movement, vibration, and age-related deterioration. The original bushing can wear, crack, harden, or become loose, allowing excessive movement of the steering shaft and reducing steering precision. Replacing a worn steering column bushing restores correct steering shaft support, improves steering feel, and helps prevent unnecessary wear to surrounding steering components. This OE Match component is ideal for routine maintenance, steering system repairs, and Porsche restoration projects.
What This Product Does:
- Supports and centres the steering shaft within the steering column.
- Maintains smooth and accurate steering operation.
- Reduces unwanted steering shaft movement.
- Minimises steering column vibration and noise.
- Helps maintain precise steering feel.
- Replaces worn, cracked, or deteriorated original bushings.
- Provides an OE-style fit and dependable quality.
Symptoms Of Wear Or Failure:
- Excessive movement in the steering wheel.
- Steering wheel wobble or vibration.
- Loose or vague steering feel.
- Knocking or rattling noises from the steering column.
- Visible wear or deterioration of the bushing.
- Increased steering column play.
- Age-related hardening or cracking of the original bushing.
Why Replacement Matters:
- The steering column bushing plays a vital role in supporting and correctly positioning the steering shaft, allowing smooth steering movement while minimising play and vibration. A worn or deteriorated bushing can lead to excessive steering movement, reduced steering precision, unwanted noise, and accelerated wear of other steering components.
- Replacing the steering column bushing restores accurate steering feel, improves driver confidence, and helps maintain the correct alignment of the steering shaft. Manufactured as a direct replacement and produced to OE-style specifications, this OE Match steering column bushing provides the correct fit, dependable quality, and long-lasting durability, making it an excellent choice for Porsche maintenance, steering repairs, and restoration projects.

Replacement Pipes (Steel) For RHD Steering Rack (Pair)
For Right Hand Drive Cars ONLY!
Other than buying a completely new steering rack or having your existing steering rack refurbished, which are both very expensive options, we now offer replacement steering rack pipes which are normally not available separately, the two replacement pipes fit to the steering rack, these pipes normally deteriorate. The steering rack of a power-assisted car needs a hydraulic circuit: a pressure line (high pressure) from the power steering pump (or pump + reservoir assembly) to the steering rack, and a return line (low pressure) from the rack back to the reservoir (or pump return side).

Power Steering Rack – Left Hand Drive (LHD)
The power steering rack is a critical steering component responsible for converting steering wheel input into precise, controlled movement of the front wheels. By using hydraulic pressure, the rack significantly reduces steering effort while maintaining the sharp, responsive feel Porsche is known for.

On performance-focused sports cars such as the 997 Carrera, Boxster 987 and Cayman 987, the steering rack plays a vital role in road feedback, cornering stability and driver confidence—especially at higher speeds and during spirited driving.
What Does a Power Steering Rack Do?
The steering rack transfers movement from the steering
column to the front wheels while hydraulic assistance helps reduce effort at
the wheel.
This ensures:
- Smooth and accurate steering response
- Consistent feedback through corners
- Reduced driver fatigue during low-speed manoeuvres
- Predictable handling under load
A worn or failing rack compromises steering precision, safety and overall driving enjoyment.
Why Do Steering Racks Fail?
Over time, steering racks are exposed to high pressure,
heat, road debris and vibration, leading to gradual wear. Common failure
causes include:
- Internal seal degradation causing hydraulic fluid leaks
- Wear in the rack shaft and pinion gear
- Corrosion from moisture ingress
- Damage caused by contaminated power steering fluid
Typical symptoms of failure include:
- Heavy or inconsistent steering feel
- Power steering fluid leaks
- Knocking or play in the steering
- Steering pull or poor return to centre
Why Replace the Steering Rack?
Replacing a worn steering rack restores:
- Precise steering control
- Correct hydraulic assistance
- Safe and predictable handling
- Confidence at speed and during cornering
Ignoring steering rack issues can accelerate wear on related components such as track rods, pumps and suspension joints, increasing long-term repair costs.
