What This Product Does:
- The rear shock absorber top mount secures the top of the shock or strut assembly to the vehicle body or rear suspension tower. It ensures the damper is correctly located and loaded, and helps absorb vibrations, maintain correct geometry and isolate noise.
- Over time, mounts, washers, nuts and associated hardware fatigue – the mount may sag or shift, washers may wear, the nut may loosen, the bearing (if present) may wear. This reduces suspension precision, can introduce noise (clunks, creaks) and affects handling.
- This kit replaces the top mount nut, washers, mount components and related hardware — restoring the top of the damper assembly to like-new spec, which supports ride quality, handling, durability and quiet operation.
When You Should Consider Replacement:
- Knocking or clunking noises from the rear strut top area when accelerating, decelerating or going over bumps.
- Poor ride quality at the rear, increased vibration or a feeling of looseness in the rear suspension.
- Inconsistent handling or rear feel: e.g., rear end doesn’t feel as controlled or stable in corners.
- You are replacing/rebuilding your rear dampers/shocks or springs: since the top mount hardware is removed anyway, replacing it is efficient and recommended.
- Visible damage or wear: If mount washers are deformed, nuts show signs of loosening, or the mount has shifted — an overhaul kit helps restore it properly.
Why Replacement Matters:
- Restores rear suspension integrity & performance: The top mount plays a key role in how the rear damper responds. A worn mount allows movement or misalignment, reducing tyre contact and degrading handling.
- Eliminates noise and improves comfort: A compromised mount is often the source of rear knocks, rattles or increased harshness — replacing the kit removes this weak link.
- Prevents further damage: If the mount hardware fails, the stress transfers to other components: damper shaft, body mount, spring seat — renewing the top mount stops further failure.
- Cost-effective when servicing: When the shock assembly is out for service, installing the full mount kit avoids future labour for what is essentially an ageing item.
