What This Product Does
This threaded fixing provides an attachment point for the exhaust at the cylinder head. Used with the appropriate nut and associated hardware, it supports flange clamping and helps keep the joint aligned.
Functions
- Provides a threaded mounting point for the exhaust attachment.
- Supports clamping of the exhaust flange against its mating surface.
- Allows the exhaust connection to be dismantled for servicing.
Symptoms of Fault
- A broken stud or visibly corroded fixing.
- Damaged threads that prevent correct tightening.
- Repeated loosening or uneven flange clamping.
- Ticking, blowing or soot deposits around a leaking exhaust joint.
Why Replacement Matters
Exhaust fixings can become seized or damaged through corrosion, repeated heating and cooling, or removal during repairs. Renewing a defective stud restores the attachment point needed for correct clamping. Inspect the mating threads, flange, gasket and nuts rather than assuming the stud alone explains a leak.
FAQs
What should be checked before fitting?
Confirm the vehicle application, stud length, thread specification and condition of the receiving threads.
Should anti-seize be used?
Follow the applicable workshop instructions for the hardware and tightening procedure; lubrication can affect the relationship between torque and clamp load.
