74mm Throttle Body
Restore accurate airflow and throttle response with this OE
Match 74mm Throttle Body. The electronic throttle body controls the amount of air
entering the engine according to accelerator input. Correct operation is
essential for smooth acceleration, stable idle and consistent engine
performance.

What Does the Throttle Body Do?
The throttle body contains a circular butterfly valve that opens and closes to regulate airflow into the engine.
When the accelerator is pressed, the engine management system electronically controls the throttle body, opening the valve to increase airflow and closing it when less engine power is required.
A correctly functioning throttle body helps:
- Control engine intake airflow
- Maintain a smooth, stable idle
- Provide responsive acceleration
- Maintain consistent engine performance
- Support accurate engine management
Why Do Throttle Bodies Fail?
Throttle bodies are exposed to heat, vibration and contamination throughout their working life. Oil vapour and carbon deposits can accumulate around the throttle plate, while the electronic actuator and internal position sensors can deteriorate with age.
Common causes include:
- Carbon and oil deposits
- Electronic actuator wear
- Throttle position sensor faults
- Electrical motor failure
- Damaged wiring or connectors
- Heat and vibration
- General age-related deterioration
A contaminated throttle body may sometimes be cleaned successfully, providing its electronic components remain serviceable.
When Should the Throttle Body Be Replaced?
Replacement should be considered if:
- Idle becomes unstable or fluctuates
- Throttle response becomes slow or inconsistent
- The engine hesitates during acceleration
- The vehicle enters limp-home mode
- Throttle-related fault codes are stored
- Cleaning does not restore correct operation
- Diagnostic testing identifies an internal fault
- The throttle plate sticks or fails to operate correctly
Similar symptoms can be caused by intake leaks, wiring or other engine management components, so correct diagnosis is recommended before replacement.
Electronic throttle bodies play an important role in Porsche engine management and intake systems.
As Porsche models age, contamination, actuator wear and electronic faults can lead to poor throttle response, unstable idle, hesitation and engine management warnings.
When diagnosing a Porsche throttle body fault, the intake pipework, electrical connections and associated engine management components should also be checked before replacement.
