- Porsche 914 (1970-1976)
Rear targa roof seal
This replacement gasket fits at the back of the removable roof where it meets the roll bar, helping maintain the seal and cushion the contact between these components.
Fits:
- Porsche 914 1970-1973 (up to VIN 47329 26221)
Diagram ref no 14
What This Product Does
The rear seal closes the joint between the targa roof panel and roll bar. It helps restrict water, draughts and exterior noise from entering the cabin while supporting a secure roof fit. A sound seal can also reduce squeaks caused by contact and movement between the roof and surrounding structure.
Functions
- Seals the rear edge of the removable targa roof
- Helps limit water and air entering through the roof joint
- Cushions contact between the roof panel and roll bar
- Helps reduce roof-related squeaks and rattles
Technical Details
- Position: rear of the targa roof
- Component description: roof-to-roll-bar gasket
- Available as self-adhering foam or high-quality rubber with a bonded fuzzy edge
- Applicable to early Porsche 914 production up to VIN 47329 26221
- Exploded diagram reference: 14
Symptoms of Fault
- Water entering around the rear corners of the roof
- Wind whistle or increased cabin noise at speed
- Squeaks or creaks from the targa panel over uneven surfaces
- Flattened, split, hardened or missing sealing material
- Visible gaps between the roof and roll bar
- Damp trim, condensation or musty odours inside the cabin
Why Replacement Matters
Age, sunlight, repeated roof removal and long-term compression can cause the original seal to shrink, harden or lose its shape. Replacing a deteriorated gasket helps restore the roof joint, reduce unwanted noise and protect the cabin and trim from moisture. Roof latches, panel alignment and adjacent seals should also be inspected, as these parts work together to provide an effective seal.
FAQs
- Does this seal fit every Porsche 914?
No. This application is specified for 1970–73 cars up to VIN 47329 26221, so the chassis number should be checked before selection. - Why might the roof still leak after fitting a new seal?
Roof-panel alignment, latch adjustment, side seals and drainage paths can also affect water sealing. Inspect these areas before making final adjustments. - What should be checked during installation?
Clean the mounting surface thoroughly and avoid stretching the seal. Confirm that the roof panel sits evenly and allow new sealing material time to settle before final latch or alignment adjustments.
