The OE Match Synchro Ring is a high-quality replacement transmission component designed for use in 3rd, 4th and 5th gear positions within Porsche manual gearboxes. Manufactured to OE specifications for fit, precision and durability, this synchroniser ring plays a critical role in ensuring smooth and accurate gear changes by matching gear and shaft speeds before engagement.
Fits:
- Porsche 911 1965-1968 2.0L / 912 SWB (F)
- Porsche 911 1968-1973 2.2L / 2.4L / 2.7L RS LWB (F)

Working in conjunction with the synchroniser hub, selector sleeve and dog teeth, the synchro ring uses friction to equalise rotational speeds between transmission components, allowing gears to engage smoothly and reducing wear on the gearbox. Three synchro rings are typically required per gearbox, one for each applicable gear position.
What This Product Does:
- Synchronises gear and shaft speeds before engagement.
- Enables smooth selection of 3rd, 4th and 5th gears.
- Reduces gear clash and grinding during shifting.
- Works with the synchroniser assembly and dog teeth.
- Improves gearbox shift quality and drivability.
- Minimises wear on transmission engagement components.
- Supports reliable and efficient manual gearbox operation.
Symptoms Of Wear Or Failure:
- Difficulty engaging 3rd, 4th or 5th gear.
- Gear grinding or crunching during gear changes.
- Increased resistance when shifting.
- Notchy, inconsistent or rough gear engagement.
- Requirement to force the gear lever into gear.
- Excessive transmission noise during shifting.
- Poor shift quality, especially at higher engine speeds.
- Accelerated wear of dog teeth, selector sleeves and related components.
Why Replacement Matters:
- Synchroniser rings are wear items that experience friction every time a gear is selected. Over time, the friction surfaces wear down, reducing their ability to equalise gear speeds before engagement. This can result in difficult gear selection, noisy shifts and increased wear throughout the transmission.
- A worn synchro ring places additional stress on dog teeth, selector sleeves and synchroniser hubs, potentially leading to more extensive gearbox damage and expensive repairs if left unattended. Reduced synchronisation can also detract from driving enjoyment and compromise the smooth operation expected from a Porsche manual transmission.
- Replacing worn synchro rings restores proper synchronisation, improves gear change quality and helps protect other internal gearbox components from premature wear. An OE Match replacement provides factory-style fitment, precision manufacturing and long-term durability, ensuring dependable transmission performance and smooth gear engagement.

Fits:
Porsche 911 1965 - 1971
Porsche 914 All 1st Gear with 5-Speed
The dog teeth ring forms part of the gearbox synchroniser assembly. It works with the synchro ring, operating sleeve, and gear hub to allow the selected gear to engage smoothly. On 1st gear, the dog teeth are critical for clean gear selection, especially during low-speed driving, manoeuvring, and gearbox operation from rest.
Functions
• Replaces the 1st gear dog teeth ring
• Helps restore correct 1st gear engagement
• Works with the synchro ring and operating sleeve
• Supports smoother gear selection
• Helps reduce crunching, baulking, or poor shift feel
• Suitable for gearbox rebuilds and synchroniser repairs
• OE Match replacement for classic Porsche transmission service.
Why Replace This Part?
Dog teeth can wear, chip, round off, or become damaged through age, high mileage, poor lubrication, worn synchro parts, or aggressive gear changes. Worn 1st gear dog teeth may cause difficult gear engagement, crunching, jumping out of gear, or poor shift quality. Replacing the dog teeth during gearbox overhaul helps restore reliable synchroniser operation and smoother 1st gear selection.
When to Replace This Part
• 1st gear is difficult to select
• Crunching or baulking occurs when engaging 1st gear
• The gearbox jumps out of 1st gear
• The dog teeth are chipped, rounded, worn, or damaged
• The synchro ring or operating sleeve is being replaced
• The gearbox is being rebuilt or inspected
• Preventative replacement is being carried out during transmission overhaul
Where it fits on the car
This dog teeth ring fits inside the gearbox on the 1st gear synchroniser assembly. It forms part of the internal gear engagement system and should be installed according to the factory gearbox layout.
