- Reduces direct contact between adjoining body panels
- Completes the original-style exterior panel finish
- Supports restoration and bodywork assembly

Symptoms of Fault
- Seal material is missing, split, brittle or compressed
- A visible opening appears at the cowl and wing joint
- Dirt and moisture collect within the panel seam
- Water trails or corrosion become visible near the joint
- Paint rubs where adjacent panel surfaces meet
- The panel join looks unfinished following restoration or body repair
Why Replacement Matters
Age, weather exposure and previous bodywork can leave the original piping hardened, damaged or absent. Renewing it helps keep the seam cleaner and drier while restoring the intended separation between the panels. The joint should be cleaned and inspected for existing corrosion before the replacement seal is installed. Avoid stretching the piping during fitting, as this may cause it to shrink away from the ends later.
FAQs
- How many seals are required?
The exterior panelling diagram specifies a quantity of two per vehicle. - When should this seal be renewed?
Replace it when the rubber has cracked, hardened, shrunk or disappeared, or whenever the front wings are removed during restoration or repair. - Is this seal only cosmetic?
No. It also helps keep moisture and debris away from the cowl-to-wing seam and limits contact between adjoining surfaces. - What should be checked before installation?
Clean the joint thoroughly and inspect the underlying metal and paint for corrosion or damage before fitting the new seal.
