The text advises the maximum speed for downshifting to prolong the life of gearbox components.
Situated on the drivers side windshield windscreen, these decals first appear from mid 1954 according to Porsche service bulletins and survivor cars, and were used up to June 1956.
The decals were superseded with a simpler design showing just the shift pattern, these were used from mid 1956 to the end of Porsche 356 production.
