Air Suspension Compressor
Restore correct operation of the air suspension system with
this OE Match Air Suspension Compressor. The compressor supplies the pressurised air required to
raise the vehicle and maintain the selected suspension height. A weak or failed
compressor can cause slow height adjustment, suspension warning messages or
prevent the vehicle from reaching the correct ride height.

What Does the Air Suspension Compressor Do?
The compressor is the main source of air pressure for the Cayenne air suspension system. It draws in and compresses air before supplying it to the suspension system, where it is used to inflate the air springs.
A correctly functioning compressor helps:
- Maintain the correct vehicle ride height
- Raise and lower the suspension
- Supply pressure to the air suspension system
- Compensate for changes in vehicle load
- Maintain correct suspension operation
Why Do Air Suspension Compressors Fail?
Air suspension compressors naturally wear over time, particularly if they are required to run more frequently than normal.
Common causes include:
- Internal compressor wear
- Overheating from excessive operation
- Worn piston seals
- Moisture or contamination
- Electrical motor failure
- Damaged wiring or connections
- Air leaks elsewhere in the suspension system
- General age-related deterioration
An air leak can cause the compressor to run excessively as it repeatedly attempts to restore system pressure. This can eventually overheat and damage an otherwise serviceable compressor.
When Should the Air Suspension Compressor Be Replaced?
Replacement should be considered if:
- The vehicle is slow to raise
- The suspension does not reach the selected height
- The compressor runs excessively
- The compressor becomes unusually noisy
- Air suspension warning messages appear
- The vehicle remains too low
- Diagnostic testing identifies insufficient compressor pressure
- The compressor motor no longer operates
Before fitting a replacement compressor, the complete air suspension system should be checked for leaks. Installing a new compressor without correcting an existing leak can cause the replacement unit to fail prematurely.
Important Air Suspension Checks
If the Cayenne drops in height while parked, the compressor may not necessarily be the cause.
Air springs, air lines, valve blocks and connections should be inspected for leaks. The compressor relay, fuse and electrical supply should also be checked when diagnosing a non-operating compressor.
Porsche Cayenne 955 & 957 Air Suspension Compressors
The air suspension system fitted to Porsche Cayenne 955 and 957 models provides automatic ride-height control and allows the suspension height to be adjusted according to driving conditions.
As these vehicles age, compressors, air springs, valve blocks and air lines can deteriorate. A weak compressor may struggle to produce sufficient pressure, resulting in slow suspension operation, incorrect ride height or suspension warning messages.
When diagnosing Porsche Cayenne air suspension problems, checking the complete system for leaks is particularly important. A leaking air spring or connection can make the compressor work continuously and significantly shorten its service life.
