What This Product Does
The compressor pressurises refrigerant and moves it around the air conditioning circuit. Working with the condenser and evaporator, it enables the system to remove heat from cabin air. Reduced compressor output can therefore affect cooling even when the ventilation fan still operates normally.
Functions
- Compresses refrigerant gas within the A/C circuit.
- Maintains refrigerant circulation through the cooling components.
- Supports cabin cooling and air conditioning operation.

- The 2017 onwards diagram specifies PR:KK1,-D19 and identifies PR:KK1 as refrigerant R134a.
Symptoms of Fault
- Vent air remains warm or cooling becomes inconsistent.
- Rattling or knocking is heard around the compressor.
- Refrigerant or oil leakage is visible.
- System pressure checks indicate inadequate compressor output.
Why Replacement Matters
A compressor that leaks, seizes or cannot generate the required pressure may need replacement to restore cabin cooling. Diagnosis should establish the cause first: low refrigerant, inadequate lubrication, contamination or restrictions elsewhere in the circuit can produce similar symptoms or contribute to compressor damage. Internal wear can also introduce debris, so the repair should address the condition of the complete circuit rather than the compressor alone.
FAQs
- Will regassing resolve weak cooling?
It may help when refrigerant is low, but recurring refrigerant loss requires leak diagnosis. Regassing does not repair mechanical compressor damage. - Should the drier and system cleanliness be checked?
Yes, particularly following internal compressor failure. Assess drier replacement and cleaning requirements as part of the repair. - What about compressor oil?
The oil specification and total quantity must suit the vehicle and repair. Check these requirements before installation rather than assuming the supplied oil charge is sufficient. - How should compatibility be confirmed?
Match the vehicle's model, engine, production year, PR codes and original compressor reference before fitting.

This OE Match air conditioning compressor is a direct replacement for the original Porsche A/C compressor fitted to selected Porsche 964 Carrera models from 1993–1994, along with all Porsche 993 models from 1994–1998. It forms the core component of the air conditioning system, compressing and circulating refrigerant to provide effective cabin cooling and climate control.
Fits:
Porsche 964 C2 / C4 / RS 1993 - 1994
Porsche 993 1995 - 1998
Diagram ref no 1.
Installed at the engine-driven accessory belt system, the compressor is responsible for pressurising and circulating refrigerant throughout the vehicle’s air conditioning circuit. As the refrigerant cycles through the condenser, evaporator, and receiver-drier system, the compressor enables heat removal from the cabin and maintains cold air output through the ventilation system. Proper compressor operation is essential for effective cooling performance and overall climate control reliability.
This OE Match unit is supplied as a complete compressor assembly with integrated magnetic clutch and pulley assembly. The compressor is designed as a direct-fit replacement for original Porsche/Denso systems and is compatible with both R12 and R134a refrigerant systems depending on vehicle configuration and conversion status.
This compressor is ideal for air conditioning refurbishment, restoration projects, or replacement of ageing original A/C components on Porsche 964 and 993 models.
The air conditioning compressor pressurises and circulates refrigerant throughout the vehicle’s A/C system, allowing heat removal from the cabin and providing cold air through the climate control system.
Function
• Compresses and circulates refrigerant through the A/C system
• Enables cabin cooling and climate control operation
• Maintains refrigerant pressure and system efficiency
• Supports stable air conditioning performance
• Restores factory cooling capability and cabin comfort
Air conditioning compressors operate under continuous pressure and heat load. Over time, internal bearings, seals, clutch assemblies, and compressor pistons can wear or fail. A worn compressor may result in weak cooling, unusual noises, refrigerant leakage, or system contamination. Replacing a failing compressor restores proper refrigerant circulation and reliable air conditioning operation.
When to replace
• Weak or no cold air from ventilation system
• Compressor clutch failure or slipping
• Grinding, squealing, or rattling noises from compressor
• Refrigerant leaks from compressor body or seals
• Seized compressor pulley or internal compressor failure
• During full A/C system refurbishment or refrigerant conversion
